Annual San Pedro Festival in Pichilemu features procession, mass and tribute to sea workers

Pichilemu hosted the traditional Fiesta de San Pedro on Monday, June 29, a religious and cultural celebration organized jointly by the Municipality of Pichilemu, the Fishermen's Unions and the Parish Inmaculada Concepción. The day began with the customary procession that set out from the Catholic temple, leading the community through the town’s main streets.

The festivities continued with a solemn Holy Mass, after which a commemorative act honored local workers who depend on the sea for their livelihoods. As part of the ritual, the image of the patron saint was carried aboard several fishing vessels, symbolizing the deep connection between the community and maritime activities.

Organizers described the event as a key moment for preserving Pichilemu’s cultural identity and reinforcing bonds among fishermen, municipal authorities and the parish. The festival not only celebrates religious devotion but also serves as a platform for showcasing the town’s maritime heritage, providing visibility for traditional practices that might otherwise fade over time.

The celebration was captured by the local program Opinión Ciudadana, which airs on Fridays at 21:30 and offers viewers a window into the region’s festive calendar. Community members highlighted how these gatherings strengthen social ties and remind younger generations of the importance of honoring both faith and the sea.

Overall, the Fiesta de San Pedro stands out as a unifying event that blends worship, cultural expression and economic solidarity in the heart of O'Higgins.
